Matcha Review
Pique matcha comes in thoughtful packaging, a rectangular box which separates to reveal 28 on-the-go packets. Each packet can be mixed with 12 oz of hot or cold water. The packets open quite easily, although it takes some practice to squish them so you get all the matcha goodness out. After opening the packet, there’s a fresh sweet grassy smell, and the matcha has a vibrant green color. I can’t confirm this, but it would make sense that storing matcha in these small packets keeps the matcha fresher as there’s less chance of oxidation (vs. storage in a foil bag or tin can). They’re also great for travel.
Whisking 1/2 a packet of the matcha with 4-6 oz of water produced a nice froth with plenty of small bubbles. Pique Sun Goddess ceremonial matcha has a pleasant sweet grassy smell. Taking a sip, the matcha has a smooth and silky texture on the palette, and balanced sweet grassy, earthy flavor with no bitterness. I also tried mixing 2 packets into a Hario cold brew tea bottle, and this matcha was delicious served cold as well.
Overall, I’m a big fan of this matcha, it has unexpectedly become one of my new favorites. The unique packaging makes it easy to pack matcha on-the-go, the matcha is triple-screened for toxins, shaded for 35% longer, and tastes delicious. I’ll be adding this to my regular matcha drink rotation.
