Matcha Review
Ocha & Co. Yabukita Single Cultivar Matcha comes in a sealed tin can. After popping the lid open and letting the microburst of matcha settle, there’s a refreshing grassy smell with hints of dark chocolate. This matcha has a vibrant, dark green color (some of the darkest green matcha I’ve ever tried). After whisking 1/2 a teaspoon of matcha into 3 oz of water, there was a nice froth and a grassy, slightly floral scent.
Ocha & Co. uses a deeper roasting technique for this matcha in order to reduce astringency and vegetal taste. The taste to me was most reminiscent of dark chocolate, likely due to the terroir along with the deeper roast of this matcha. Overall, if you are looking for a smooth and silky, balanced, grassy, deeper roast matcha, look no further than Ocha’s Yabukita.
About the Company
From the Ocha & Co. website:
Our unblended single Yabukita cultivar matcha has been specially grown in Shizuoka. This limited small batch production reflects the variations in terroir, climate and season. Top quality with extra firing or deeper roast (火入れ) undertaken to reduce astringency and vegetal taste.
Deep green in colour – soft and mild with naturally balanced sweetness and umami.
