Matcha Review
12/16/18 Tasting: Ocha & Co. Special Selection Usucha Japanese Kyoto Uji Matcha comes in a re-sealable foil bag. After unsealing and taking a deep whiff in, there’s a distinctly sweet grassy smell. Nothing subtle about it. The matcha has a healthy bright green color. Taking a 1/2 teaspoon of it and whisking with 2-3 oz of water produces a froth of fine bubbles. Sipping on it, this is one of the smoothest matchas I’ve ever tasted. There wasn’t even a hint of bitterness in the flavor, just clean pure umami goodness. As the matcha cooled, I started to pick up on a hint of nutty flavor. Overall, for those seeking a smooth and refined matcha, this would be a top choice.
About the Company
From the Ocha & Co. website:
This is our highest grade matcha, prepared from young first flush green tea leaves. Kyoto Uji Matcha is a very mellow and refined premium powdered green tea, stone-milled in the traditional way. This is a premium matcha at a price that you can afford. Small batches are shipped from the tea farm weekly to ensure long shelf-life. Teas from Ocha & Co. were selected to represent Japan at the 2015 Speciality & Fine Food Fair at Olympia in London. A Sencha from the plantation also won first prize in the 46th Japanese Ministry of Agriculture tea competition which is Japan`s top prize for tea blenders.
