Matcha Review
12/16/18 Tasting: Ocha & Co. Organic Single Cultivar Matcha comes in a sealed tin can. After opening, and letting the little burst of matcha dust settle, there’s a subtly sweet smell. The matcha has a bright green color. Whisking 1/2 teaspoon of the matcha with 2-3 oz of water produced a nice froth. The bubbles weren’t quite as fine as those in their special selection (but that could’ve been my own doing). The matcha blended in water had a slightly thicker body and deeper green color than the special selection. Taking a sip of it, there’s a savory and comforting taste to this single cultivar matcha. It has a smooth flavor, more complex and very slightly less sweet than their special selection. Overall, if you’re looking for a delicious, thick, savory matcha with complexity, I’d highly recommend this.
About the Company
From the Ocha & Co. website:
Our unblended single cultivar organic matcha has been specially grown with Matcha in mind. This limited small batch production reflects the variations in terroir, climate and season. Matcha grown this way differ from the more usual larger scale production where a variety of Matchas are blended to control the quality. Blended for us by the winner of the 46th Japanese Ministry of Agriculture Tea Competition (2016) – the most prestigious tea competition in Japan.
